Mannar mass graves: 256 skeletons exhumed

Activists who made a visit to Thennamaravadi Murugan Temple were shocked to find the Hindu temple demolished and a Buddhist temple being built in its place.

Court issues temporary order banning Rajapaksa and his cabinet from functioning

Sri Lanka's Court of Appeal today issued an interim order banning Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and his cabinet from functioning.

 

The interim order comes in the wake of Mr Rajapaksa refusing to step down, despite losing two no confidence motions brought against him.

Sri Lankan security forces swoop down on Heroes' Day organisers; six ex-combatants arrested

The Sri Lankan security forces have arrested six former LTTE fighters, all involved in organising Heroes' Day commemorations in Tamil Eelam.

 

Five of them were arrested in Batticaloa, whilst the sixth one, Mr Rasanayagam Sarvananthan (aged 48), was arrested in Killinochi.
