14 Tamil political prisoners refuse rehabilitation – ask for fair trial

14 Tamil political prisoners have refused to undergo rehabilitation, saying they preferred a fair trial as they are innocent.

The 14 political prisoners, who were recently released on bail, attended Colombo Chief Magistrate Court today, where they were asked by the chief magistrate to accept the rehabilitation offer of the Sri Lankan government.

However, turning down the offer, the 14 political prisoners reiterated their innocence and asked for a fair trial for them to prove that they had been falsely imprisoned under the Prevention of Terrorism Act 1979.
