Air Tigers’ base to be turned into a domestic airport

The Sri Lankan government has announced that it would transform the Air Tigers’ base in Iranaimadu, Killinochi, into a domestic airport.

The air base, used by Air Tigers during the armed conflict as a launchpad to carry out air strikes on Sri Lankan government’s military and economic targets, was captured by the latter’s armed forces in January 2009.

Speaking at an event held in Killinochi on Saturday, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said his government is planning to transform the airbase into a domestic airport.
