Captain Miller, the first Tamil freedom fighter to enlist in the LTTE’s elite Black Tiger Commando Force, carried out the first suicidal commando raid on 5 July 1987 on the occupying Sri Lankan military forces, at Nelliyadi Maha Vidyalayam, who had converted the school in to a large military complex, curtailing Tamil children’s education.

Miller’s raid forced the Sri Lankan army to withdraw from the camp, allowing Tamil children to resume their studies.
