Encroachment by Sinhala fishermen intensifies in Mullaithivu

Tamil fishermen have accused the Sri Lankan government of facilitating Sinhala fishermen’s encroachment upon the seas of Mullaithivu district.

Speaking at a press conference held on Saturday, Mr Jeya, the president of Mullaithivu district’s fishermen society, said under the so-called regime of good governance, upto 305 boats belonging to Sinhala fishermen have encroached upon the waters of Mullaithivu.

In 2012, three years before the current government came to power, only 32 boats belonging to Sinhala fishermen were found to be encroaching upon the seas of Mullaithivu, Mr Jeya added.
