First Eelam Tamil RAF pilot celebrates his one hundredth birthday

The first British Tamil pilot of Tamil Eelam origin pilot has celebrated his one hundredth birthday in Trincomalee.

Born in Uduvil, Jaffna, in 1918, Selliah Kangasabapathy alias Pathy joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) at the age of 23.


Having completed his training in Canada in 1941, Pathy carried out air strikes for the RAF during World War II, at one point sinking an Axis submarine.


After the end of World War II, Pathy served in the British coastguard, and later worked for Indian Airlines.
