Five primary schools in Batticaloa in danger of being shutdown

Five primary schools in Paduvankarai region of Batticaloa are in danger of being shut down, the region’s education officials have told the Tamil Polity.

These schools currently function in Tharavai, Periyavaddavan and Perumaveli, all of them being economically deprived rural areas.

Local education officials have lamented that unless the Sri Lankan government takes concrete steps to create conditions for the resettlement of Tamils who were displaced from those areas during the armed conflict, the schools in question would be shutdown.
