Germany war crimes arrest: allegations against the LTTE unfounded

Tamil Polity can exclusively reveal that the arrest of a Tamil man in Germany last week on war crimes charges are based on unfounded allegations.

On 1 August 2018, German authorities arrested B.Sivatheeban (aged 36) in Duesseldorf, claiming he was a former LTTE fighter who helped to tie up sixteen surrendered Sri Lankan soldiers and guarded them before they were summarily executed in 2008.

An investigation by Tamil Polity has revealed that no such execution took place in 2008, before or even after.

A former mid ranking LTTE cadre based in Germany has told the Tamil Polity that the man arrested on war crimes charges is most likely to be an asylum seeker who had made an unfounded allegation against the LTTE in an attempt to strengthen his asylum claim.
