Irish freedom fighter Martin McGuinness no more

The veteran Irish freedom fighter Martin McGuinness died on Tuesday, after being diagnosed two months ago with a rare genetic disease.

Mr McGuinness last served as the deputy first minister of Northern Ireland.

He was the former chief of staff of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and dedicated his life for the unification of Northern Ireland with the rest of Ireland.

In July 2006, Mr McGuinness travelled to Killinochi, the administrative capital of the defacto state of Tamil Eelam, and met senior leaders of the LTTE.
