Jaffna taxpayers forced to pay Sri Lankan navy’s electricity bill

Valigamam West Municipal Council has been forced to pay the Sri Lankan navy’s electricity bill for the past 15 years, a local councillor has revealed.

Speaking at the sitting of the Municipal Council on Tuesday, Mr N.Ponrasa said he estimates that the Council has been forced to pay at least 700,000 rupees to Ceylon Electricity Board on behalf of naval personnel stationed at Ponnalai.

The Council then agreed to look into the matter and take steps to force the Sri Lankan navy to reimburse it.
