Brigadier Fernando's actions not covered by diplomatic immunity - English court rule

Friday March 01, 2019

Westminster Magistrates Court has ruled that Brigadier Priyankara Fernando's throat slitting gesture is not covered by diplomatic immunity.

On 04.02.2018, Brigadier Fernando issued throat slitting gestures towards Tamils demonstrating outside the Sri Lankan High Commission in the UK.

The landmark ruling comes in the wake of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office's intervention in January that led to the arrest warrant issued by the Court against the Brigadier being revoked.
