Chandrika steps in, silently garners support for Ranil

Tuesday October 30, 2018

Informed sources in Colombo have told the Tamilpolity that Chandrika Kumaratunga is silently garnering support for Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Backed by Western diplomats based in Colombo, Mrs Kumaratunga is said to have held secret meetings with top UPFA parliamentarians, urging them not to support her arch rival Mr Mahinda Rajapaksa when the parliament is reconvened.

Mrs Kumaratunga was instrumental in creating a rift between President Maithripala Sirisena and his predecessor, Mr Rajapaksa, in 2014, which led to the latter's downfall.
