General election postponed to 5 August

Wednesday June 10, 2020

Sri Lanka's Election Commission has announced it is postponing the general election to 5 August.

The announcement comes after a mock election held by the Election Commission a few days ago to assess the practical difficulties in holding a general election amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is the first time in Sri Lanka's history the parliament would remain dissolved for 5 months.
