'No federalism - only village councils!' Ranil

Friday August 14, 2015

The Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has reiterated the United National Party's position that there will be no federal solution to the ethnic conflict. Instead, power will be devolved through the village council system, he has announced. Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo yesterday, the Sri Lanka prime minister also denounced accusations by the opposition that his party was associated with pro-LTTE groups: ''Prabhakaran informed me in 2005 that he will help me to become the President if I agreed to his demands. I refused then and why would I listen to pro LTTE forces now especially when we can win an election without them?''
