Rajapaksa regime resumes detention of Tamils under terrorism laws

Tuesday December 10, 2019

The Sri Lankan government has arrested and detained four Tamils in Trincomalee district under the draconian Prevention of Terrorism Act 1978.

All four have been accused of attempting to rejuvenate the Tamil Tigers. The Sri Lankan police have claimed the four men had in their possession a Chinese manufactured assault rifle, a claymore mine, a hand grenade and some ammunitions.

The Sri Lankan police are infamous for arresting innocent Tamils and fabricating evidence.

The Prevention of Terrorism Act 1978 vests the Sri Lankan authorities with the power to detain suspects without trial and making confessions obtained through torture to be admissible in trials.
