Sampanthan pays the price for supporting Ranil, loses opposition leader post

Tuesday December 18, 2018

The former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been appointed as the opposition leader.

With Mr Ranil Wickremesinghe being reappointed as prime minister with the support of the TNA, Mr Rajavarothayam Sampanthan, the TNA leader, lost his right to hold on to the position of opposition leader.

Political commentators in Tamil Eelam said Mr Sampanthan losing his post will have no consequences for Tamils because he failed to do anything constructive during his tenure as opposition leader.
