Sinhala students clash at Jaffna University; Tamil man taking photos attacked by soldiers

Wednesday August 07, 2019

Violent clashes took place between Sinhala students at Jaffna University for the third day on Wednesday.

A Tamil man who photographed the incident was attacked by Sri Lankan soldiers, who had allegedly warned him to mind his own business.

On Wednesday evening, the clashes spread to a private hostel opposite the petrol station at Parameswara Junction, Jaffna, housing a group of Sinhala university students, with the Sri Lankan police attending the scene many hours after the incident, locals have told the Tamilpolity.

It is believed that the clashes are politically motivated, with the security forces turning a blind eye to them.
