An Australian Court of Appeal has reduced the prison sentence of a Sinhalese man who purported to hijack a passenger airplane.
Whilst flying on a plane to Sri Lanka via Malaysia in May 2017, Manodh Marks claimed to have had a bomb in his possession and ran towards the cockpit door, before being tackled by passengers.
Last year, Marks was convicted and sentenced to 12 years in prison by a County Court in Victoria.
On appeal, however, Victoria's Court of Appeal today reduced his sentence to 8 years in prison.
Marks had claimed his actions were induced by drugs and had no intention of hijacking the plane.
