Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was contemplating bringing in police advisors from Wuhan to contain the spread of the Coronavirus, political sources in Colombo have said.

The plans were ditched after Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa opposed the move, warning that India may become agitated if Chinese police advisors were deployed in the country.

Rumors that India was contemplating sending its military to Sri Lanka were spread by Indian intelligence agencies as a warning to the Sri Lankan government, the sources further added.
