The Sri Lankan parliament descended into violence for the third day today, as opposition MPs were subjected to chilli powder attacks.

Mr Malik Samarawickrama MP and Gamini Jayawickrama Perera MP, both from the ousted Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's party, were treated at the hospital in the parliament complex after both of them suffered injuries to their eyes.

Photos show of JVP parliamentarian Mr Vijitha Herath being immersed in chilli powder following the attack.

As violence escalated and ruling party MPs took control of the speaker's chair, the parliament was adjourned till Monday, 19 November.
