Monday November 05, 2018

The Sri Lankan government is considering releasing most of the Tamil political prisoners, information emanating from Colombo suggest.

In a Twitter message released on Sunday in Tamil, Namal Rajapaksa MP, the son of Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, said the prime minister and the president will take an appropriate decision on releasing ex-combatants soon.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post on Sunday, the former Sri Lankan Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said: 'Tamil political prisoners whom President Sirisena stubbornly refused to release since 2015 are to be released.'
