Monday November 18, 2019

Tamils of Indian origin living in Yattiantotte, Kegalle district, have been attacked by supporters of the Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The attack took place today evening and is believed to be a reprisal for Tamils in the district voting for Sajith Premadasa, Mr Rajapaksa's rival.

Commenting on the attack, a Tamil resident asked: 'Did we vote for Pirapaharan? We voted for a Sinhala candidate; yet we are being attacked.
