Victims of 1987 Kokkadicholai massacre remembered

A memorial was held in Batticaloa on Monday to pay tribute the to victims of 1987 Kokkadicholai massacre.


On 27 January, 1987, commandos from Sri Lanka's Special Task Force (STF), the notorious counter-insurgency arm of the state's police force, rounded up the village of Kokkadicholai and took into custody over 100 Tamils, including those working at an American prawn farm.


87 of those arrested were massacred and their bodies dumped on that day and the following day.
