OMP in danger of becoming the office for issuing death certificates – TNA

The TNA has urged the Sri Lankan government to ensure the Office of Missing Persons (OMP) does not become an office for issuing death certificates.

Commenting on the formation of the OMP,  TNA parliamentarian Selvam Adaikalanathan said he hoped it would take steps to investigate the plight of thousands of Tamils made to disappear by the Sri Lankan security forces, rather than simply issuing death certificates.

Meanwhile, commenting on the development, TNA parliamentarian Charles Nirmalanathan accused the Sri Lankan government of creating the OMP to hoodwink the UN Human Rights Council; and said it was not genuinely concerned about revealing the truth on enforced disappearances.
