Resettlement becomes elusive for Iranaithivu IDPs

The IDPs from Iranaithivu, Killinochi, held a vigil on New Year’s Day, urging the Sri Lankan government to resettle them in their lands without any delay.

Iranaithivu village was occupied by the Sri Lankan naval forces in 1992, forcing 437 families to flee from the area.

Since then the Sri Lankan government turned the village into a naval complex.

Though the Sri Lankan government announced, following persistent vigils by the IDPs, a few months ago to resettle them in their lands, resettlement has become elusive for them as the government is yet to complete land surveying in the area.
