Political leaders in Tamil Nadu have paid tribute to Vaiko’s mother Maariyammal (98) who passed away on Friday.
The former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Karunanidi’s sons Alagiri and Stalin attended Maariyammal’s funeral Saturday.
Leaders of other political parties in Tamil Nadu, including Thol.Thirumavalavan joined them.
On Friday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister released a statement of condolence.
Tamil Diaspora organisations, the TNPF and Tamil civil society groups also released statements of condolence.
Meanwhile, Kasi Anandan, the vetern Tamil Eelam poet exiled in Tamil Nadu, attended Maariyammal’s funeral on Saturday and paid homage to her on behalf of Eelam Tamils.
A longstanding supporter of Tamil Eelam freedom struggle, Maariyammal famously said in 1991 that Tamil Eelam National Leader Hon. V.Pirapaharan was one of her sons when the Indian police tried to remove his portrait from her home following the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi.
