TNA loses its monopoly over Tamil politics

The TNA has lost its monopoly over Tamil politics, with the TNPF gaining roughly twenty percent of Tamil votes in Saturday’s local elections.

Despite emerging as the largest single political party in thirty-four local councils in Tamil Eelam, the TNA is unable to govern a vast majority of those bodies without the support of the TNPF and other Tamil political parties.

Meanwhile, the TNPF has emerged as the largest single Tamil political party in two local authorities in Jaffna district, with also representations in other Tamil Eelam-wide local authorities.
