TNPF reiterates call for an international justice mechanism

The Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF) has urged the UN to hold Sri Lanka to account through an international judicial mechanism.

Speaking at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Wednesday, TNPF leader Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam said ‘it is high time’ that the UN’s human rights chief refers Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court or set up ‘an ad-hoc international tribunal’ so that justice can be delivered to Tamils.

Mr Ponnambalam also pointed out that that there is no point in giving Sri Lanka more time to implement Resolution A/HRC/30/1 because it had already rejected the idea of international participation in a domestic mechanism.
