Tombstones of Tamil heroes recovered from abandoned army camp

The tombstones of LTTE fighters have been recovered from the site of an abandoned military camp in Jaffna.

For many years, the army camp in Urelu was used as a torture chamber by Sri Lankan military intelligence personnel.

The owner of the land recovered the tombstones of LTTE fighters whilst he was clearing his land for re-settlement.

It is believed that the tombstones are from Kopai Heroes’ Cemetery, and may have been used by Sri Lankan military intelligence personnel to gather and verify details of Tamil Heroes’ relatives.
