UNHRC ignores Tamils, gives two-year extension to Sri Lanka

Ignoring the Tamil call for immediate international action, the UNHRC has given another two years for Sri Lanka to implement Resolution 30/1.

A new resolution to this effect was passed today at the UNHRC, with Sri Lanka, like in September 2015, being one of its co-sponsors, along with the United States and the United Kingdom.

The new resolution comes in the wake public statements by the Sri Lankan president, prime minister and foreign minister that international judges would not be allowed to participate in any domestic judicial mechanism that may be set up in the future to investigate allegations of international crimes by the state’s security forces.
