‘Will not rest until perpetrators of genocide are brought to justice’ – Sir Ed Davey

A former UK cabinet minister has urged the UK government to ensure that the UN process does not hide the genocide perpetrated by the Sri Lankan state.

Speaking at Mullivaikal Tamil genocide remembrance rally held outside 10 Downing Street today, Sir Ed Davey MP ┬ásaid British political leaders like him ‘will not rest until the perpetrators of [Tamil] genocide are brought to justice’.

Sir Davey, who served as the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change in the former Prime Minister David Cameron’s coalition government, and who was instrumental in persuading the EU to withdraw GSP+ concessions to Sri Lanka, said he was very angry when the Conservatives decided to support the EU’s decision last year to reinstate the concessions to Sri Lanka.

Voicing strongly in support of the right to self-determination of Tamils, Sir Davey added that ‘the right to argue for Tamil Eelam must be protected.’
